Mimosa (lat. Acacia dealbata) is a plant from the genus Acacia, and there are more than 300 different species of mimosa in the world, all of which originate from Australia.

Mimosa is specific in that it is the only flower that blooms during winter, and is taken as a symbol of woman and freedom. In Italy, France and Russia, this flower is associated with International Women's Day, March 8, when women are given a bouquet of these yellow flowers. Mimosa means respect, brings luck in business and love.

It is believed that the first mimosas arrived in France in the 18th century and were planted around the villas of the rich and in the parks of noble castles.

It was brought to Herceg Novi by the famous sailors from Boka from their long journeys. Due to the favorable Mediterranean climate, with about 200 sunny days a year, this flower soon became at home and permanently spread throughout Boka Kotor.

In February, the mimosa turns the entire Herzegovinian riviera into a luxurious garden, and is the trademark of the festival, the famous Mimosa Festival, and tourism in Boka Kotor and the Montenegrin coast in general.

The Mimosa Festival is a festival of fun, cultural and sports events, founded in 1969 by the Tourist Association of Boka Kotorska and the Herceg Novi Municipality Assembly.

One of the most famous events during the holidays is the Mimosa, Fish and Wine Festival, which takes place along the Kumbor, Đenovići and Baošići settlements. Since 1968, an interesting art event has been held - Hercegno Winter Salon. Competitions are traditionally held in various sports: football, swimming, boxing, water polo, sport fishing, bocce, sailing, judo, mountaineering... All in all, the Mimosa Festival is special because it has content for all generations!

Majorettes are the stars of the Mimosa Festival. Their performance is a unique form of dance art, which combines elements of dance and gymnastics with marching. With their colorful costumes, glittering batons and elegant movements, majorettes have amazed audiences for generations.

This year, the entertainment and tourist event "Mimosa Festival" was held in Herceg Novi from February 15 to March 3, under the slogan "For all tastes". The organizers of the 55th "Mimosa Festival" are the Municipality of Herceg Novi, the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi and the Public Institution of Culture Herceg fest.
